Google is constantly changing the way they feature their search results. Gone are the days that a search brings up a list of basic links. They give answers to the questions that people are searching for in a way that is fast, convenient and easy to digest. Search Engine Watch defines a featured snippet as “A featured snippet is a summary of an answer to a user’s query, which is displayed on top of Google search results. It’s extracted from a webpage and includes the page’s title and URL.”

Now that you’re got some ideas, its time to start creating (or optimizing) your content! Google prefers to pull snippets from concise, structured content! That means you’ll want to structure your content in a way that Google can easily pull short excerpts from. Think back to the different types of Featured Snippets, there are paragraph, list or table format. You will want to ensure your content fits into one of these snippet styles. And remember, most featured snippets are only 40-50 words long. Because of this, you should keep each section between 40 and 50 words. And don’t forget to use headers! It makes it easier for Google to crawl your site.
When creating your content, focus on answering as many questions as you can related to the topic! This will not only be helpful to your reader, but it will offer you more opportunities to get featured (all while establishing your brand as an expert on the topic).
