SEO: Developing An efficient SEO Strategy

You’ve probably heard the important role which efficient SEO plays in achieving online success and business growth. That means developing an efficient SEO strategy is an important aspect of your business plan. Employing SEO skills to your online activities goes beyond deciding what keywords to use. This article will help you realize the key factors you will need to develop the best, most efficient SEO strategies.

Develop keywords/ longtail keywords

Successful digital marketers, content writers and social media managers know that longtail keywords are the magic behind increasing organic search engine traffic. A longtail keyword is a keyword phrase that contains at least three words and is used to target specific audiences rather than a general one.

However, longtail keywords would be useless if they are constantly showing up to an audience that cares little about them. This is why the first step in developing keywords is ensuring that you understand who your target audience is and what they like. Details such as what they are most interested in, what they’re looking for, their location and preferences, can ultimately go a long way in helping you create powerful longtail keywords. Google Analytics is a great tool for sourcing this kind of information.

Based on the behaviour of your target audience, you can then outline what actions you want them to take. you can use this information to brainstorm which keywords will grab the attention of your demographic. Additionally, you can also use applications like Google Adwords Keywords Planner and Ubersuggest which are great tools for researching effective longtail keywords.

We recommend that you classify your longtail keywords using a keywords’ schedule. This is as simple as organizing the keywords you have come up with, into rows of a spreadsheet and according to subsections of your target audience.

For example, if you are trying to sell pharmaceutical products to people between the ages of 18 and 30, it would suffice to group this target audience into closely related ages, e.g. 18-20, 21-23, etc. This system helps you to readily access keywords anytime you need to incorporate keywords into your content. Additionally, it ensures that your longtail keywords match each age-specific content.

Build Pages and Pillar Pages

Pillar pages are guides that cover all aspects of a single core topic. They help support and organize the structure of your website and/or blog content. They are particularly important when managing the changing behaviours of your target audience.

Using longtail keywords from your keywords’ schedule which you want to rank for, create pages based on core topics which would be appealing to your audience. You should note that you must have a cluster of core topics first before you can even start thinking about keywords and pillar pages. The keywords are simply there to guide you as you build your pages.

“Facebook Marketing” for instance, is a core topic from which 15-25 blog posts can be developed. The goal to keep in mind as you create your page is to make sure you don’t exhaust your core topic.

Blog Consistently

Now that you have your pillar page with core topic(s) and an outline of blog posts which have been developed, you should begin to write content. You should focus on incorporating longtail keywords which you developed in step one, into and for your blog posts. Doing this consistently is the key to driving that organic traffic that you desire.  Creating articles and content that offer value is a good way to keep users interested in your brand.

Strategic Link Building

Links are a key factor when developing an efficient SEO strategy. However, it is advisable to build natural links because your target is humans who prefer relating with links they find natural. The purpose of employing efficient SEO in the first place is to build your brand’s image and get more people to know and interact with you. Therefore, each link you put out there should simple and powerful enough to invite visitors to your page.

Track Your Success

Real success will be shown in increasing organic traffic/business. Setting up a Google Analytics account is crucial to monitoring the traffic of your site on a daily, weekly and/or monthly basis. Create a spreadsheet to also help you track which actions actually led to specific results. If possible, employ a rank tracking software that would help you monitor search positions over time.

Tracking your success helps you avoid wastage of resources because it shows you where to put increase efforts and vice-versa.
